Who we are The ICT Infrastructure & Cloud section is responsible for delivering reliable, secure, and modern technology services that underpin the Department's mission. The team manages core ICT capabilities including networking, unified communications, end-user computing, server and storage infrastructure, and data centre operations. You will join a multidisciplinary group of technical specialists who work collaboratively to deliver high-performing ICT services and support the Department's digital transformation agenda. We support Cabinet - as the focal point of government decision-making. We assist our Secretary - who has a stewardship role as Head of the Australian Public Service What you will do As the ICT Infrastructure Manager, you will lead a specialised technical team responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing management of the Department's critical infrastructure services. You will translate strategic ICT objectives into practical, high-quality technical outcomes and ensure the stability, availability, and performance of the Department's ICT environment. Key responsibilities: Strategic Leadership & Operational Management Lead, coach, and mentor a team of technical experts to deliver high-quality ICT outcomes. Oversee lifecycle management of infrastructure assets to ensure security, availability, and scalability. Drive modernisation initiatives, including cloud-hybrid architectures, in alignment with the Digital Transformation Strategy. Technical Oversight Networking & Security: Manage the departmental network to ensure resilience, connectivity, and compliance with PSPF and ISM requirements. Unified Communications & End User Compute: Deliver stable, modern UC (Email/Teams/Voice) and EUC environments. Server & Storage: Oversee virtualisation platforms and data centre operations to ensure strong performance and data integrity. Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration Represent the infrastructure function in cross-divisional projects and provide expert technical advice to SES stakeholders. Manage vendor relationships and undertake procurement activities, ensuring SLA compliance and value for money. Technical & Professional Capabilities Demonstrated experience managing complex ICT infrastructure environments across: Networking and Firewalls Virtualisation End User Compute Classified Environments Proven leadership experience, including performance management and building a continuous improvement culture. Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a high-pressure operational environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
