Why this role matters Brighter Beginnings is an early intervention initiative that supports families with children aged 0-5 years by offering practical, culturally safe support within trusted early learning environments. As a Case Worker in the Hunter region, you will work as part of a broader CAFS service system team, collaborating closely with Family Connect & Support (FCS), the Port Stephens Supported Playgroup Program (PSSPP), and partnering with a Brighter Beginnings worker based on the Central Coast. The role focuses on culturally safe engagement with Aboriginal children, families, educators and early learning settings across the region. You will deliver a place based early intervention approach by offering support directly within familiar early childhood environments where families feel comfortable, while contributing to an evidence informed model built on pilot findings demonstrating improved engagement, earlier identification of needs, and stronger follow‑through on referrals. Your day to day Providing regular outreach to early childhood education and care services across the Hunter region, including preschools and childcare settings. Undertaking assessments to understand each family’s circumstances, identify needs and plan appropriate next steps, while offering information, guidance and warm referrals to help families access relevant supports and services. Providing short‑term support for families who may be facing barriers such as waitlists or system complexity, and supporting a short‑term, practical support model that helps families navigate systems. Building strong relationships with educators and ACCOs to ensure engagement is culturally safe, respectful and meaningful, and supporting Aboriginal children, families, educators and ACCOs through culturally appropriate approaches. Working collaboratively with your wider CAFS team, including FCS and PSSPP colleagues, and partnering with the Central Coast Brighter Beginnings worker to ensure continuity across regions. Skills and Experience A relevant degree qualification in a related field At least 3 years’ experience working in supporting vulnerable families with young children and expectant mothers preferably including experience supporting families with attachment disruption and trauma histories. Must have a solid understanding of all areas of child development such as physical, social, emotional and neurological development etc. Sound understanding and experience in supporting families with routines, nutrition and positive parenting practices. Strong background in delivering Child Protection services to vulnerable families. Excellent IT skills and ability to use technology in service delivery. Ability to work unsupervised and remotely. High level of professional accountability and integrity and a belief that every parent has potential. Current driver’s licence.
