The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Information Technology Officer to provide a critical role at Western Plains Correctional Centre. About the Business Unit Western Plains Correctional Centre is a modern, maximum-security prison focussed on rehabilitation, housing up to 1248 people in custody. Western Plains features multi-purpose infrastructure which is adaptable to the evolving needs of Corrections Victoria and the people in our care. Modern amenities include medical wards, a cultural centre, and vocational training facilities. Western Plains provides a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to individualised care which motivates, encourages and promotes reintegration into the community. Western Plains has advanced technology which improves security, streamlines operations and enhances connections for the people in our care. Western Plains operates with three primary service teams: Workforce and Prison Services, Communities, and Safety and Operational Service which collaboratively deliver comprehensive services for people in our care, safety management, and corporate services. Through its innovative design and service model, Western Plains aims to create a thriving environment conducive to safety and positive behavioural change. This role is part of the Workforce and Prison Services (WPS) team, a team dedicated to delivering essential corporate and ancillary services support to prison operational teams and people in our care. Leveraging the technical ability and professional expertise of trained subject matter experts, the team supports the smooth functioning of prison operations while prioritising people in our care rehabilitation and safety. This position sits within the Information Technology Team, which supports the prison and prison staff in areas such as Application Development & Support, Infrastructure Support, IT Asset Management and Communications devices support. About the Role The Information Technology Officer is responsible for supporting staff in use of the technology, hardware and applications support and assist in implementation projects at Western Plains. This role also involves supporting of video conferencing equipment and people in our care is use of in-cell device. This role acts collaboratively within Prison's Operations Team and other internal and external stakeholders. Given the nature of this position, being a direct contact with people in our care role within the facility, you will be required to work predominantly on-site. You will be required to work flexible hours including weekends and public holidays and attend to urgent work as required. Appropriate remuneration will be applied for the above in accordance with the Victorian Public Service Determination. Some of your duties will include: Provide technical advice and assistance to Western Plains staff in relation to local IT resources. Liaise with Technology Services and Service Desk on project rollouts, installation or repair of IT equipment and people in our care network computers. Support prisoner systems by assisting in upgrades and publishing contents on people in our care network. Assist in implementation upgrades and ongoing maintenance of people in our care computers, WIFI equipment and systems to ensure compliance with local policy. Maintain IT assets and conduct regular audits of staff and people in our care computers, and other IT Resources at Western Plains including completing reports and maintain IT asset register. About you To be successful in this role, you will have: Experience in the provision of IT support and services and telecommunications and video conferencing equipment. Ability to understand, troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues. Proven experience in delivering high standard of service to internal customers. Ability to prioritise and plan workload to ensure compliance with deadlines and timeframes. High level of proficiency using the following suite of applications: Microsoft Windows 10/11, and Microsoft Office 365 Suite. Aptitude and willingness to learn new technologies Qualifications/requirements A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline such as information technology is highly desirable.
