About the Role: An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a major NSW Government healthcare facility in Westmead . This role will support the commissioning and ongoing operations of a newly developed hospital building and play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient and reliable performance of critical building infrastructure. Working closely with facilities management and redevelopment teams, the Mechanical Engineer will contribute to the planning, coordination and management of mechanical and hydraulic services across the site. This includes overseeing systems such as HVAC, ventilation, air conditioning, and associated plant and equipment , ensuring that all systems operate effectively to support healthcare delivery. The role requires a proactive and solutions-focused engineer who can manage maintenance programs, coordinate contractors, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards and best practice asset management. Key Responsibilities Assist in developing and implementing facilities management programs for mechanical services including HVAC and hydraulic systems. Coordinate and oversee planned, preventative and reactive maintenance to minimise downtime and extend the lifecycle of assets. Manage mechanical services contractors and service providers, including procurement, contract management and performance monitoring. Provide expert advice on mechanical services, asset performance and infrastructure planning. Support the commissioning and operational readiness of new building infrastructure and mechanical systems. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Australian Standards, codes of practice and workplace health and safety requirements. Monitor asset performance and contribute to asset condition assessments and technical documentation. Identify and manage operational and compliance risks relating to mechanical systems and escalate issues where required. Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, consultants and contractors across the broader campus environment. About You: To be successful in this role you will bring strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services along with experience managing infrastructure within complex environments. You will demonstrate the ability to coordinate maintenance programs, oversee contractors and deliver high-quality engineering outcomes in a regulated and operationally critical setting. Essential Requirements Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering suitable for membership with Engineers Australia. Demonstrated experience delivering planned, preventative and reactive maintenance services including HVAC, hydraulic and building mechanical systems. Experience managing mechanical installations, upgrades and refurbishment projects. Strong knowledge of the Building Code of Australia (BCA), Australian Standards and relevant codes of practice. Proven ability to supervise teams and manage contractors to deliver work programs and project outcomes. Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills. Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office and asset or facilities management systems.
