ME Medical Recruitment - We are currently recruiting for a Palliative Care Physician full time contract to commence work in a Regional Hospital in Victoria several hours drive from Melbourne. Medical Specialist Year 1-9 With more than 4,500 staff and volunteers and covering an area a quarter of the size of Victoria, this is an expanding regional health service offering the advantages of city life combined with the beauty and freedom that comes from living in a regional area. This is a 700 bed service that treats more than 45,000 inpatients, triages more than 65,000 emergency attendees and welcomes more than 1,600 new born babies in a year. In addition more than 15,000 operations are performed in our operating theatres and more than 100,000 occasions of services are provided in our clinics to outpatients. The Clinical Operations Division The Clinical Operations Division encompasses acute, allied health, cancer and mental health services. They provide a wide range of general medical, surgical and specialty services including but not limited to; Oncology, Cardiology, Renal, Emergency, Women’s and Children’s, Critical Care, Specialist Clinics, Cancer Clinics and Mental Health Services. Our Allied Health teams provide a diverse range of programs and person centred care in inpatient, outpatient, community, home and residential care settings. Within a state-of-the-art hospital, our Ambulatory and Critical Care, Medical Services, Surgical Services and Women’s and Children’s areas use the latest technologies to provide excellent care. They have a world class Cancer Centre and use a multi-disciplinary, integrated approach to treat specific cancers. The Cancer Centre offers medical oncology, radiation oncology, specialist nurses, clinical trials and cancer research, palliative care, and a Cancer Wellness Program. The Specialist Palliative Care Consultancy This provides an in reach and outreach specialist consultancy service across the entire region, working closely with generalist and specialist palliative care providers. The Position The role of the consultant physician will be to provide specialist palliative medical support and clinical leadership to the Health Specialist Palliative Care Service and its patients including the Specialist Palliative Care Consultancy Team, Community Specialist Palliative Care Service and the Inpatient Specialist Palliative Care Unit. Responsibilities and Accountabilities Key Responsibilities •To provide a MBS palliative medicine specialist outpatient clinic and early access models to the service. •To act as a member of the multi-disciplinary teams across the Specialist Palliative Care Service. To assume clinical responsibility for patients under his/her care, including the Inpatient unit and Primary care, recognising that community patients are under the day-to-day care of their general practitioner. • To collaborate and work cooperatively with the other Consultant physicians in Palliative Medicine. • To participate in setting the standards for high quality, compassionate clinical care within the team, based on best available evidence. • To support junior medical staff, and other members of the Multi-Disciplinary team and provide appropriate supervision in the provision of clinical services. • To ensure timely and punctual attendance at inpatient and community clinical activities. • To support the clinical practice of the Nurse Practitioners in Palliative Care. • To participate in the Health Palliative Care Service after hours and weekend roster, providing advice to medical and nursing staff of the inpatient unit, or any of the health services as required. • Provision of Regional Community consultations in Patients home including RACF Generic Responsibilities Key Selection Criteria Essential Full unconditional registration with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner / Specialist in Specialist Palliative Care (Substantially Comparable via RACP SIMG may be considered for this role along with visa sponsorship). Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent. Clinical experience working in Specialist Palliative Care Demonstrated ability to teach, mentor and inspire doctors in training. Desirable Demonstrated ability to innovate, influence and enthuse based on best evidence-based practice. Demonstrated leadership of and participation in quality improvement activities (including audits). Strong leadership and well developed communication skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate with patients; their carers with respect and empathy. Demonstrated ability to work with other staff including management, senior and junior medical staff, nursing staff and students in a respectful, supportive and co-operative manner.
