We are seeking an experienced Payroll Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our Human Resources Information System (HRIS) transformation project, supporting the implementation of UKG and Payroll Metrics across our organisation. This is a fantastic opportunity for a seasoned payroll professional to play a pivotal role in a high-impact project with a collaborative and forward-thinking team. The Role Reporting to the Project Manager, you will serve as the primary payroll and workforce management (WFM) expert throughout the implementation lifecycle — from requirements gathering and design through to testing, go-live and hypercare. You will act as the bridge between our payroll operations team and the technical implementation team, ensuring the solution is configured to meet our business and compliance requirements. This is a full-time contract engagement. We will also consider a part-time contract engagement requiring a minimum of 3 days per week, with the potential for additional days during key project milestones such as testing and go-live. Key Responsibilities Act as the Payroll and Workforce Management SME across all implementation phases and collaborate closely with People & Culture, Finance, IT and implementation partners Lead requirements gathering, solution design validation, testing and go-live support Define and document cost centre structures including GL mappings, ensuring alignment between payroll and finance Provide chart of accounts and General Ledger extract to support payroll journal configuration and finance integration Define, document, validate and configure areas such as payroll calendars and pay codes including earnings, deductions and allowances. Define, interpret and map Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements (EAs) and National Employment Standards (NES) including leave rules into system configuration Develop comprehensive payroll test cases and scenarios across Awards and EAs Oversee payroll parallel runs and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) Support payroll data migration and validation activities Develop payroll process documentation, SOPs and user training materials Provide hypercare support post go-live About you You are a highly experienced Payroll SME or Senior Payroll professional with proven involvement in HRIS or payroll system implementations. You bring: Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, Modern Awards, EAs and Single Touch Payroll (STP) Proven capability mapping complex Award and EA conditions into payroll systems Experience building detailed payroll test scenarios and validation cases Solid understanding of GL principles, chart of accounts and payroll journal processing Experience working closely with Finance teams on payroll and GL integration Experience with payroll parallel run testing and UAT Strong stakeholder management and communication skills Ability to work autonomously in a project-driven environment Flexibility to increase days during critical project milestones Desirables: Hands-on experience with UKG (UKG Pro, UKG Ready, or Dimensions) and/or Payroll Metrics Experience in Agile or hybrid delivery environments will be highly regarded.
