Professional Service Review (PSR) is an Agency within the Health and Ageing portfolio whose work protects the integrity of the Medicare, child dental benefits and the pharmaceutical benefits programs (PBS). PSR is established under Part VAA of the Health Insurance Act 1973, which sets out the role and powers of the Agency, as well as the process that it must follow when conducting its work. The key duties of the position include The Associate Director must be a highly credible medical practitioner with strong professional standing and the judgement required to exercise statutory decision-making responsibilities. The role requires a leader who combines clinical credibility with governance awareness, strong stakeholder engagement capability and the ability to manage complex and sensitive matters while maintaining confidence across government and the medical profession. The key duties of the position include: Perform statutory functions under Part VAA of the Health Insurance Act 1973, including reviewing matters referred to PSR. Examine clinical and other relevant records relating to potential inappropriate practice. Conduct meetings with practitioners under review and issue statutory notices where required. Prepare reports and recommendations arising from reviews and investigations. Work closely with the Director of PSR and provide high-level advice on matters relating to the PSR Scheme and peer review processes. Establish and oversee PSR Committees where matters require further inquiry. Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including government agencies, the medical profession, colleges and professional bodies. Represent PSR in external forums and contribute to maintaining professional support for the PSR Scheme. Assist in communicating outcomes of PSR work to the medical profession and relevant stakeholders. Support longer-term initiatives such as training and engagement of health professionals participating in the PSR process. Ensure compliance with Commonwealth legislation including the Health Insurance Act 1973, Public Service Act 1999 and the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013.
