Mission Data (MD) Division within the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is responsible for providing the foundational data capabilities to support all of ASD's functions. MD Division does this via the provision of data platforms and services, management of ASD's mission data, and providing complex analytic development and support, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning capabilities. All roles within MD require extensive knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policies requirements. ASD 4 Data Engineer Assist in the design and implementation of data flows to connect operational systems and analytics platforms, ensuring compliance with data security and governance requirements. Contribute to the development and maintenance of components of enterprise data warehouse and data engineering solutions. Work with stakeholders to gather and prepare medium scale data sets that meet defined business requirements. Support the build and operation of data streaming pipelines. Undertake initial root cause analysis on data issues and processes under guidance. Contribute to the development and application of data engineering frameworks, standards and best practices. Support data model development and assist in making improvements aligned with business needs. Plan own work, maintain task schedules and provide routine progress updates to supervisors. ASD 5 Data Engineer Lead the design and implementation of complex data flows that integrate operational systems with analytics and business intelligence environments, ensuring robust data security and governance. Oversee the design, development and maintenance of enterprise data warehouse and data engineering solutions, ensuring alignment with architectural direction. Engage with diverse stakeholders to understand analytical requirements and assemble large, complex data sets that support strategic and operational decision making. Lead the build, optimisation and maintenance of data streaming systems. Conduct detailed root cause analysis to resolve complex data issues and identify enhancements to processes and systems. Develop and refine data engineering frameworks, standards and best practices to improve data availability, performance and security. Lead the creation and optimisation of data models in response to evolving business requirements. Develop and manage work plans, coordinate activities across contributors, and report on progress, risks and outcomes. ASD 6 Data Engineer Provide skilled leadership in the design and implementation of complex, enterprise wide data flows and integrations, ensuring they meet strategic, security and governance requirements. Lead and direct the architectural design, development and long term management of enterprise data warehouse and data engineering platforms. Shape strategic engagement with senior stakeholders to identify emerging data needs and design solutions that support organisational priorities. Oversee the design and delivery of scalable, enterprise grade data streaming capabilities and advanced data processing pipelines. Lead complex, Agency wide root cause analysis activities to resolve systemic data issues and drive continuous improvement. Set the strategic direction for data engineering frameworks, standards and governance processes, ensuring consistent adoption across teams. Provide authoritative guidance on data model design and evolution for enterprise systems. Lead program level planning, manage priorities across teams or projects, and provide high level reporting on outcomes, risks and alignment to strategic objectives.
