An opportunity is available for a Claims Team Manager – Professional Conduct (Victoria) to join our Melbourne team in a permanent, full-time capacity. This role involves leading a team of Claims Managers, providing strategic direction, mentorship, and oversight of claims management to achieve the best possible outcomes for members. The Claims Team Manager works closely with the General Manager, Professional Conduct Claims to ensure team performance, portfolio management, and member experience standards are consistently met. The key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Oversight of the management of professional conduct claims within the team's portfolio, including AHPRA and Medical Board investigations, Coronial investigations, Medicare compliance matters and employment and training disputes in accordance with Avant's claims management protocols and guidelines. Provide clear direction, coaching, and support to Claims Managers to ensure they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to deliver the best possible outcomes for members. Maintain active daily oversight of the team's claims portfolio, monitoring file volumes, durations, costs, and outcomes against KPIs and targets. Collaborate with Claims Team Managers and Heads of Practice across jurisdictions to share knowledge, ensure consistency of approach, and support a high-performance national claims culture. Identify opportunities for process improvement in professional conduct claims management by implementation of data driven decision making. Contribute to national change initiatives, in addition to medico-legal education activities such as internal training, article writing, and external presentations. To be successful in this role you will have: 10 years' experience in professional conduct claims management, medical indemnity, health law, or a closely related regulatory or legal environment. Tertiary qualifications in law, health, or a related discipline. Demonstrated experience in people leadership, including coaching, performance management, and team development. Sound understanding of the Australian health regulatory landscape, including AHPRA processes, Medical Board functions, disciplinary tribunals, coronial proceedings, and Medicare compliance frameworks. Strong knowledge of insurance principles, indemnity decision-making, and claims management protocols. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute effective claims strategies across complex, multi-party regulatory proceedings. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex legal and regulatory matters clearly to member practitioners. Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and jurisdictions. Sound financial acumen, including experience managing portfolio budgets and legal expenditure. Experience presenting at professional forums, conferences, or delivering member education activities. Familiarity with claims management systems (e.g. Aurora) and knowledge management platforms (e.g. LivePro) would be advantageous. Why work at Avant?
