This full-time temporary assignment offers the chance to contribute to high-visibility work while being part of a collaborative communications team. Your new role You'll play a key role in managing media activity across the program, leading proactive and reactive communication, shaping key messages, and supporting senior leaders with accurate, timely advice. You'll coordinate responses to media enquiries, produce high quality written material, manage social media scheduling, and monitor sentiment to identify emerging risks. Core tasks include: Lead proactive and reactive media strategies that support program priorities Prepare key messages, Q&As, talking points and reactive briefs for senior stakeholders Coordinate timely, accurate responses to media enquiries and manage approvals Identify and develop proactive stories that showcase program outcomes Manage social media scheduling, content planning and performance reporting Monitor media coverage and social sentiment, escalating emerging risks Provide clear advice to internal teams on media engagement and issues management Produce regular reports and updates to support leadership decision making What you'll need to succeed Proven experience in media relations and issues management Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, accurate messaging Experience managing social media channels and content scheduling Confidence working across multiple stakeholders Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities Government or major project experience Familiarity with sentiment monitoring tools Tertiary qualifications in Communications, PR, Journalism or similar What you'll get in return In return, you will receive a temporary assignment within a respected government department, supported by Hays throughout the duration of your contract.
