Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:am to 5pm The Primary Purpose The Practice-Based Orthopaedic Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality post-operative care and support to patients recovering from orthopaedic surgical procedures or trauma. You will be the primary clinical point of contact, ensuring patients receive compassionate, professional, and compliant care from their surgery through to full recovery. Key Clinical & Operational Responsibilities Patient Recovery Monitoring: Conduct thorough monitoring and evaluation of patient recovery, promptly identifying and addressing any post-operative complications, and providing regular, accurate updates to the treating doctor. Specialist Nursing Duties: Perform crucial hands-on tasks including wound care (dressing changes), assisting surgeons with administering therapeutic injections (e.g., Monovisc and corticosteroids), and the accurate fitting and removal of orthopaedic equipment (e.g., casts and moon boots). Patient Education & Support: Educate patients and their families on complex post-operative care regimes, recovery milestones (return to sport/driving), and manage all related clinical queries in collaboration with the surgeon and PA. Compliance & Administration: Maintain the highest standards of WHS and legal compliance, manage stock control for orthopaedic equipment across multiple sites, and ensure timely, accurate documentation in medical records. First Responder: Act as a first responder for first aid or CPR support within the clinic when necessary. What You Will Bring Essential Qualifications: Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse (RN) and current CPR/First Aid Certification. Clinical Experience: Proven practical experience with wound care, dressing changes, and casting/splinting, and strong experience in patient education and support. Core Attributes: Demonstrated Empathy and Compassion, exceptional attention to detail (crucial for monitoring and injection assistance), and strong Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking skills for managing complications. Team Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team (surgeons, PAs, and other clinical staff). Experience in orthopaedic, surgical, or trauma nursing is highly desirable, as is a Postgraduate Certificate in Orthopaedic Nursing.
