Townsville Grammar School is one of the original Grammar Schools of Queensland. The Year 7-12 campus is located on the original site at North Ward. The School also operates two Junior School campuses, both offering Pre-Prep to Year 6, at Annandale and North Shore. Townsville Grammar School is a co-educational, non-denominational School with a current enrolment of approximately 1400 students, including 120 boarders (7-12), of whom approximately 25 are international students. As one of the eight original Grammar schools in Queensland, Townsville Grammar School was established in 1888 and has offered boarding since this time. The School has a long-standing reputation as the leading academic school in Northern Queensland, also offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Years 11 and 12. Townsville Grammar School is seeking a skilled musician to provide string tutoring and ensemble direction services on an independent contractor basis for the Junior School commencing Term 3, 2026. This engagement involves delivering services primarily at the Annandale Campus (approximately three days per week) and North Shore Campus (approximately one day per week), by agreement with the School. The contractor will also provide direction and conducting support for junior string ensembles at each campus and for school events such as the Townsville Eisteddfod. Services may include: Providing individual and small group string tuition to junior students Supporting students’ skill and technique development Preparing and directing junior string ensembles for rehearsals and performances Providing constructive feedback to students Fostering a positive and encouraging learning environment Communicating rehearsal and performance information to ensembles The School seeks a musician with strong string performance skills, experience teaching young students, and, ideally, experience conducting ensembles. The ability to communicate effectively with students across a range of ages and abilities is essential. Applicants must hold a current Working with Children Blue Card, or be eligible to obtain one prior to providing services to the School. Engagement will be governed by the School’s Independent Music Tutor Agreement , with all remuneration and obligations managed in accordance with contractor arrangements.
