This is a dual‑function, hands‑on role that combines day‑to‑day mill hand and production support responsibilities with planned and reactive maintenance activities across feed mill plant and equipment. The balance of production and maintenance duties may vary depending on operational needs, with the role playing a key part in both production continuity and plant reliability. The position requires a proactive approach to safety, teamwork and problem solving, with flexibility to support operational requirements including varied shifts and occasional weekend work. Key Responsibilities Feed Mill & Site Operations Operate feed mill equipment, including augers, pellet presses, roller mills, hammer mills and packaging machinery. Assist with production activities, ingredient handling and stock movement. Forklift operation for receivals, dispatch and yard movements. Maintain cleanliness, hygiene and housekeeping standards in line with stockfeed manufacturing requirements. Work collaboratively as part of a team to meet production and operational targets. Follow all workplace health and safety, quality and operational procedures. Support general mill and yard operations as directed. Maintenance & Repairs Carry out routine, preventative and reactive maintenance tasks. Perform basic machine maintenance and fault finding on feed mill and packaging equipment. Assist with mechanical repairs, inspections and defect identification. Support machine installations and minor plant modifications as required. Assist qualified tradespersons and external contractors during maintenance works. Undertake minor steel fabrication tasks where trained and authorised. Complete maintenance records and report faults, hazards and safety concerns. Maintain and promote a strong safety focus across all activities. Essential What You’ll Bring: Previous experience working with feed mill or similar manufacturing equipment Experience with machine maintenance and basic fault finding Ability to work a flexible shift pattern, including some weekend work as required Strong commitment to workplace health and safety Pro‑active, diligent and reliable work ethic Ability to work effectively in a team environment Physically capable of performing manual handling tasks Ability to follow procedures, instructions and safe work practices Forklift licence, or willingness to obtain Desirable Trade Certificate in Mechanical Fitting and Machining (beneficial but not essential). Previous experience in a feed mill environment. Experience with packaging machinery. Experience with machine installations. Exposure to pneumatics systems. Steel fabrication and welding experience. Basic computer skills for maintenance reporting and record keeping. Understanding of stockfeed manufacturing processes and hygiene requirements. Working at Heights ticket, or willingness to obtain.
