About the Position We are looking to welcome a passionate Team Leader to join our Pormpuraaw Safehouse team in Far North Queensland. This is your chance to make a real difference by creating a safe, supportive environment for children awaiting reunification or placement. In this pivotal role, you’ll lead day-to-day operations, ensure the house is physically and emotionally secure, and guide your team in delivering a therapeutic family reunification service model. You’ll also step up as part of our on-call roster, providing after-hours and weekend support when needed. Full-time, Government funded position until 31 December 2027 with possible extension. Key Responsibilities: Lead, coach and develop a team of Residential Support Workers to provide trauma informed and culturally safe care to children and young people based on the Hope and Healing Framework. Provide regular feedback and communication to team members via team meetings and supervision “Dadirri”. Manage daily operations: Work with the Program Coordinator to handle budgets, stock control, rosters, vehicle maintenance, risk assessments, and emergency preparations. Ensure compliance and safety: Complete audits, follow policies, and promote Workplace Health and Safety best practices. Lead and support care delivery: Guide your team in providing trauma-informed care, creating a nurturing home environment, planning meals and activities, and encouraging positive family relationships. Respond and role model: Stay calm in challenging situations, manage behaviours, complete reports and plans, and act as a positive role model for children. Lead the team in the creation and fostering of a warm, structured, secure environment and maintain an accepting and supportive relationship with family and community contacts of each young person. About You Hold or be completing relevant qualifications: Degree in Community Services or Certificate IV in Child Youth & Family Intervention (outlined in the Strengthening the Queensland Residential Care Workforce – Minimum Qualification Standards Information Sheet). Maintain essential certifications: Hope and Healing Framework certificate; Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training highly regarded. Demonstrated skills and experience working within a trauma informed framework. Experience in mentoring of employees through challenging situations to ensure children in the house are given the best level of care. Demonstrated ability to run a busy household that meets service contract requirements. Demonstrated skill, ability, and experience in caring for and raising children. Other Requirements Eligibility for a Working with Children Check or professional exemption. Current driver’s licence. Legal ability to work in Australia (proof of eligibility required).
