The role delivers comprehensive geriatric management across multiple inpatient settings, including the Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) ward, the Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) ward, and the Interim Care Ward, all operating within an acute geriatrics service model. Key duties and responsibilities Consultant-level inpatient management of older adults admitted under Geriatric Medicine at PRH, ensuring high quality, evidence-based care across all geriatric service areas. Specialist geriatric expertise and advisory support to medical colleagues within PRH, across other specialties, and to clinicians in geographically isolated centres throughout the Northern Territory. This includes consultation in subspecialty areas such as orthogeriatric and falls management. Participation in after hours service delivery, providing routine and emergency care, as well as after hours consultancy to colleagues and junior medical staff on a rostered basis. Supervision, teaching, and mentorship of junior medical officers—including Advanced Trainees, Basic Physician Trainees, RMOs, Interns, and medical students—supporting their clinical development and professional growth. Engagement in continuous professional development, including undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, peer review, research, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical audit activities. Active contribution to departmental governance, including attendance at Geriatrics Consultant Meetings, Mortality and Morbidity reviews, and other relevant forums. Adherence to service quality, safety, and workplace policies, ensuring compliance with defined standards and fostering safe, high quality clinical environments. Promotion of a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership, professionalism, and role modelling behaviours that support teamwork, respect, and service excellence. Essential Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Specialist registration with Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in General and Acute Care Medicine and Geriatric Medicine.
