We’re seeking a degree-qualified Mechanical Project Engineer/Project Manager to join a multi-disciplined engineering team delivering major mechanical and structural equipment upgrades. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong technical engineering capability with hands-on project leadership experience. You’ll take ownership of day-to-day project delivery, support senior leadership, and manage client and contractor relationships across multiple engineering projects. Key Responsibilities Develop and manage safety systems throughout design, installation and commissioning phases. Produce and review mechanical designs and engineering calculations (piping, flow systems, basic structural analysis). Work closely with drafting personnel to review layouts, manufacturing drawings, P&IDs and schematics. Conduct design and constructability reviews with specialists and contractors. Participate in hazard and risk analysis activities. Oversee QA activities for equipment procurement and installation. Prepare work scopes, tender documentation, and support procurement processes. Develop commissioning plans and participate in commissioning of equipment and process systems. Project Management Lead day-to-day project operations, ensuring progress aligns with cost, schedule and quality targets. Manage project budgets, cost reporting and planning activities. Develop and manage project schedules with an understanding of lifecycle impacts. Oversee contract management and coordinate consultant/contractor engagements. Identify project risks and produce risk management plans. Maintain strong client relationships and deliver positive stakeholder experiences. Lead and mentor team members and supervise onsite contractors. Skills & Experience Required Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Experience in mechanical design, design management and systematic design processes. Advantageous experience in: AutoCAD and 3D modelling software Pressure piping (AS4041) Basic structural component design (tanks, platforms, support structures) Heavy equipment lifting (design and execution) Exposure to heavy industry or manufacturing environments. Strong communication and organisational capability to interface with internal teams and external contractors. Project Management Experience Previous Project Manager or Senior Project Engineer experience. Strong understanding of project scheduling, cost management and reporting. Knowledge of quality, design documentation processes and approval pathways. Ability to identify and manage project risks. Experience with commercial and financial considerations relating to supplier and contractor arrangements. Demonstrated leadership and the ability to coordinate multi-discipline teams.
