ABOUT THE ROLE The Chef oversees all aspects of food management at Gateway Health’s Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Residential Rehabilitation, the Wangaratta Therapeutic Community. The role assists residents in developing their skills in meal planning and cooking, while also providing residents and staff with high quality nutritional meals. The Wangaratta Therapeutic Community is a 30-bed facility providing a Therapeutic Community model residential program for adults experiencing harm and significant problems relating to their AOD use. A typical day might look like: Supporting residents to plan, prepare and serve a range of meals including lunch, dinner, morning and afternoon tea Ensure dietary and cultural appropriateness of all meals and food Prepare meal plans in collaboration with residents and leadership team Coordinate stock control, ordering and shopping for all food supplies Act as the Food Safety Supervisor ensuring cleanliness and hygiene of kitchen and all appliances Maintain documentation as required ABOUT YOU This role would particularly suit someone who enjoys teaching, mentoring and passing on their knowledge of food and hospitality. It may be ideal for a hospitality or home economics teacher, or an experienced chef with strong kitchen leadership and training experience who is looking for a meaningful role in the community. An understanding of alcohol and other drug (AOD) challenges and the role of residential rehabilitation services would be highly regarded.
