Primary objective Under the supervision and direction of nursing staff assist with patient care whilst maintaining a safe work environment and support clients with complex mental health and other health issues residing in Top End Mental Health Service (TEMHS) medium to long-term residential facilities by assisting in the daily activities of clients. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Work within TEMHS service delivery framework in providing client care and support to clients with complex mental health and other health issues. 2. Support clients in their daily living, including supervising and assisting with domestic duties such as making beds, cleaning, cooking, laundry, facilitating community access and social participation. 3. Assist treating team and other staff in the development and implementation of individual client personal recovery plans. 4. Support clients in the management of their mental, physical, and social health and wellbeing under the supervision of the house coordinator and treating team. 5. Assist in the delivery of diversionary programs for clients, including managing challenging behaviour and ensure duties are carried out in a culturally competent manner. 6. Work rostered shifts as required, and act as shift leader as requested on after hours shifts to organise cover for any sick leave on subsequent shifts, and to ensure appropriate escalation of issues to on call clinician where appropriate. 7. Maintain confidentiality and facilitate effective communication within the team. 8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces. Selection criteria Essential 1. Experience working in a secure residential environment providing interventions such as skills of daily living. 2. Ability to work under general supervision to perform effectively in a team and independently, with good communication skills. 3. Experience and commitment to provide brief interventions, education, domestic duties and support clients in the management of their health care. 4. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures. 5. Preparedness and capacity to work rostered shift work. Desirable 1. Certificate III or IV in Mental Health or other relevant qualifications. 2. Previous experience in a mental health service. 3.
