The key duties of the position include The Role The Deputy Director, Communication & Change provides strategic leadership for communication, engagement and change management activities that support the delivery of outcomes across the Materiel Logistics Function. Reporting to the Director Materiel Logistics Services, the role operates as a trusted adviser to senior APS, ADF and industry stakeholders during a period of significant transformation and reform. A core focus of the role is enabling the consistent and effective implementation of Integrated Product Support (IPS) across the One Defence Capability System. This includes translating IPS policy, frameworks and assurance requirements into clear, practical guidance that supports workforce readiness and adoption. The role leads a specialist team while also personally delivering complex communication, engagement and change initiatives. Success requires strong leadership, sound business judgement, the ability to operate independently within Defence governance frameworks, and proven capability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment. About our Team The Communication & Change Team supports the Materiel Logistics Function by enabling effective adoption of Integrated Product Support (IPS) through targeted communication, engagement and structured change management. The team designs and delivers communication products, engagement activities, and change interventions that support large scale reform and transformation initiatives across CASG and ETML. Working closely with engineering, logistics, sustainment, assurance and program delivery stakeholders, the team ensures IPS policy, frameworks and assurance requirements are understood, embedded and applied consistently. By integrating communication, engagement and change approaches, the team enhances workforce readiness, strengthens stakeholder alignment, and supports sustainable behavioural change that underpins Defence capability outcomes. They bring sound business judgement, the ability to manage and deliver programs of work, and a strong understanding of organisational transformation and reform. The candidate is comfortable working independently at the EL1 level, while operating within established governance, policy and assurance frameworks. They communicate with influence, build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, and can translate complex policy and change requirements into clear, practical guidance. Experience supporting IPS, Materiel Logistics, sustainment or large scale capability initiatives is highly regarded.
