Senior Network Security Engineer Canberra or Brisbane $159,000 14% Superannuation NV1 Security Clearance Required We are seeking a Senior Network Security Engineer to join a high-performing team responsible for delivering secure, resilient and high-availability network services across a nationally significant aviation environment. This is a rare opportunity to play a key role in a multi-year network modernisation program, transitioning legacy IP and non-IP technologies to a next-generation, fully integrated IP network incorporating terrestrial, microwave and satellite technologies. You will design, build, secure and sustain complex network security infrastructure while ensuring compliance with national and international aviation, safety and security standards. Key Responsibilities Provide expert technical leadership across network security gateway technologies including NGFW, BGP, Traffic Engineering, Load Balancing, WAF, IPS/IDS, VPN, Proxy solutions and Remote Access. Support large-scale network transformation initiatives and system modernisation programs. Ensure network systems meet strict reliability, safety and security compliance obligations (CASA, ICAO, ISM, PSPF and relevant standards). Investigate and resolve complex security incidents, vulnerabilities and system defects. Contribute to architecture design, system integrity assurance and safety case inputs. Prepare and review technical documentation including specifications, procedures, test plans and governance artefacts. Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior engineers. Liaise with internal engineering teams, project stakeholders and external vendors. Participate in an on-call roster (minimum one week per month). You are a highly experienced network security professional who thrives in complex, regulated, 24x7 operational environments. You bring strong systems engineering discipline, sound judgement, and a commitment to safety-first operations. Essential Experience & Skills: 7 years' experience supporting complex network security infrastructure. Deep expertise across enterprise security platforms (Cisco, Palo Alto, Check Point, F5, Infoblox). Strong understanding of Australian Government ISM and PSPF frameworks. Experience with change control, systems engineering and lifecycle governance. Proven ability to identify, analyse and mitigate security vulnerabilities. Strong stakeholder communication skills - technical and non-technical. Qualifications & Requirements: Diploma (minimum) in IT or Engineering. NV1 Security Clearance (or ability to obtain - Australian Citizenship required). Advanced certifications across Cisco / Palo Alto / Check Point / F5 / Infoblox (or equivalent industry experience). Highly Regarded: AWS Advanced Networking / Security or Microsoft Azure certifications. CISSP, ISSEP or similar. CPEng / RPEng eligibility. Degree in Engineering or Information Technology.
