Bar Manager – Award Winning Historic Battery Point Venue About Us Shipwrights Arms is a dynamic and multifaceted venue combining the character of a classic front bar, a contemporary dining space, and 12 accommodation rooms. As a key part of our leadership team, the Bar Manager plays a central role in shaping the atmosphere and operations across multiple facets of the business. Position Summary The Bar Manager is responsible for leading bar operations and drink offerings while supporting the broader management of the venue during key service periods. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a confident and capable operator with excellent service standards, strong team leadership, and a thorough understanding of all aspects of a complex hospitality venue. This role includes supervisory responsibility for the restaurant during peak periods and oversight of accommodation operations when acting as the sole manager on duty. Key Responsibilities Bar Operations & Beverage Program ● Manage daily bar operations, including stock control and supplier relationships. ● Develop and maintain drink lists (including wine, beer, cocktails, and non-alcoholic offerings) in line with seasonal menus and guest trends. ● Ensure RSA compliance and staff adherence to licensing laws. ● Lead, train, and motivate the bar team to deliver exceptional product knowledge and guest service. ● Maintain bar cleanliness, functionality, and presentation to a high standard. Venue Management Duties ● Act as the venue’s Duty Manager during rostered shifts, including managing the restaurant floor during key service times. ● Open and close the venue as required, including cash handling, reconciliation, and safe procedures. ● Provide support and direction to FOH and BOH teams during busy periods. ● Manage and resolve customer concerns in a calm and professional manner. ● Communicate effectively with kitchen and accommodation teams to ensure smooth operations across all departments. ● Team & culture - develop and execute training programs. ● Provide input for business growth and prosperity. Accommodation Oversight ● Conduct check-ins and check-outs, as required during Duty Manager shifts. ● Coordinate with housekeeping and maintenance to ensure room readiness and guest satisfaction. ● Ensure booking systems and guest communications are managed accurately when on duty. About You: • At least 12 months’ experience in a similar management role. • A genuine love for local food, wine, and hospitality . • Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire a team. • A hands-on approach and a commitment to delivering memorable guest experiences.
