About the Role We have an exciting opportunity for a Parking Ranger to join our Parking & Regulations team . This proactive, field‑based role is responsible for delivering fair, consistent and customer‑focused parking and regulatory services across the municipality. The position plays a key part in improving parking outcomes, supporting community safety and contributing to accessible, well‑managed public spaces. Working across the city, you will conduct intelligence‑led patrols, respond to community concerns, support the management of abandoned vehicles, and use Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) technology to inform enforcement and operational decisions. The role also involves positive, constructive community engagement and educating residents, businesses and visitors about parking requirements. Key responsibilities of this position include: Conducting targeted patrols of parking areas, informed by data, community reports and observed trends Monitoring compliance with parking restrictions and taking enforcement action when required Operating LPR technology to collect accurate data and identify areas for improved compliance Responding to community complaints and service requests with professionalism and a focus on education Investigating and managing reports of abandoned vehicles Preparing accurate records, evidence and reports to support fair and lawful enforcement Providing courteous, consistent customer service and engaging with the community to encourage voluntary compliance Using handheld devices and enforcement systems to record activities and issue infringements About You You are someone who enjoys working outdoors, interacting positively with the community and using sound judgement in a wide range of real‑world situations. You maintain professionalism at all times, communicate clearly and calmly, and seek to educate and influence behaviour where possible before enforcement. You will bring: Strong customer service and engagement skills The ability to apply discretion and fairness in complex field situations Good knowledge of (or ability to learn) parking legislation, local laws and Council by‑laws Confidence using technology including LPR systems, handheld devices and enforcement software Strong attention to detail and accurate record‑keeping Ability to conduct investigations and prepare clear evidence A current Tasmanian “C” Class driver’s licence Certificate III in Local Government (Regulatory Services) or equivalent qualification (Desirable) About the City of Launceston The City of Launceston is Tasmania's largest council and an award-winning Employer of Choice.
