Position Summary Employment Type: Fixed Term – Part Time The SEWB Support Worker is an entry‑level role designed to develop skills in providing culturally safe and holistic wellbeing services. The position works closely with the SEWB, Mental Health, and Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) teams to deliver best‑practice, culturally informed support. This role is an Identified Position , open only to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person . This is a genuine occupational requirement to ensure culturally safe, community‑informed care, in line with Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic) . Applicants must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, identify as such, and be accepted by their community. A key component of this role includes working within the Bringing Them Home project, prioritising the needs of Stolen Generations members and their families. The role also supports a range of community engagement activities , including SEWB men’s and women’s groups, social gatherings, and wellbeing‑focused community events. Key Responsibilities 1. Direct Service Delivery Work collaboratively with SEWB team members to support client wellbeing and recovery. Observe and assist with SEWB intake processes, client appointments and follow‑up support under supervision. Assist with developing Individual Treatment Plans under supervision. Contribute to case reviews and holistic wellbeing discussions. Build capacity to manage a small caseload of low‑risk SEWB clients using the SEWB framework. 2. Groupwork and Events Assist with planning and delivering SEWB groups (e.g., men’s/women’s groups) with a focus on health promotion and prevention. Support coordination of SEWB events such as Mental Health Week, Overdose Awareness Day and National Apology Day. 3. Planning and Reporting Undertake data collection, monitor KPIs and prepare monthly statistical reports. Participate actively in supervision with the Team Leader. Escalate any concerning behaviours or risks to clients or families following the appropriate process. 4. Relationship Management Build and maintain relationships with external agencies to support client outcomes. Attend meetings, forums and training programs to remain informed about current models of care and cultural best practice. Work collaboratively with internal MDAS teams to ensure streamlined intake, assessment and referral processes. 5. Key Selection Criteria Direct Service Delivery Demonstrated capability and willingness to complete Certificate IV in AOD or Mental Health. Understanding of SEWB, AOD and Mental Health models of care that are culturally appropriate. Creativity in developing wellbeing activities, resources and community initiatives. Organisation & Planning Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks in a dynamic environment. Communication & Interpersonal Skills Ability to work within a team and learn from senior staff. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate, consult and negotiate with Aboriginal and non‑Aboriginal people respectfully and effectively. Respect for Cultural Diversity Demonstrated commitment to providing culturally inclusive services to Aboriginal people. Willingness to engage in ongoing cultural learning to strengthen relationships and improve service delivery. Qualifications Willingness to obtain Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs or Mental Health.
