Allygroup is seeking an experienced EL2 level (or equivalent) lawyer with strong expertise in Insolvency Law. This position is offered as an initial six‑month contract with an Australian Government department, with the possibility of a further six‑month extension. The successful candidate will report directly to the Deputy General Counsel. The engagement is expected to commence in April 2026 for an initial six‑month term, with the opportunity to extend for 12 months. Both full‑time and part‑time arrangements will be considered. Work location is flexible, with the option of a hybrid arrangement combining in‑office and remote work Roles and responsibilities Lead and manage a small team of lawyers providing legal advice and support in the administration of personal insolvency matters Deliver guidance to case managers on the administration of bankrupt estates, interpretation of the Bankruptcy Act, and management of related litigation Provide legal advice on property disputes, leasing arrangements, and other commercial matters Brief and oversee external legal panel firms engaged to act in court proceedings Support the lodgment of caveats and contribute to the development of streamlined processes to enhance operational efficiency Deliver legal training, mentoring, and capability-building initiatives for case managers and Legal staff Identify, design, and implement improved practices and procedures, including standing instructions and SOPs, to enhance efficiency across legal and insolvency functions Requirements Hold a current Australian legal practising certificate from any Australian jurisdiction Australian citizenship is mandatory Applications must include a current resume and a cover letter addressing the selection criteria outlined in the position description.
