Your Contribution The Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Worker (Specialist DFV Worker) will be part of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Family Wellbeing Service (FWS), delivering culturally sensitive, holistic, trauma-informed, and responsive services to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families impacted by domestic and family violence. This initiative seeks to offer these families a comprehensive, integrated service response from FWS while improving their access to mainstream domestic and family violence support systems. Duties & Responsibilities Duties & Responsibilities • Provide specialist advice and assistance to FWS staff to ensure they are aware of the nature and impact of domestic and family violence and the impact on the work they do with clients and family members • Assess and undertake risk assessments of referrals received where domestic and family violence has been identified as a presenting concern o Develop and document safety plans with families o Ensure the perspectives of the children and young people are considered when completing safety plans o Assess for all forms of risk and protective factors for preschool and aged children • Provide FWB workers with advice and assistance with: o safety planning including, safe engagement strategies for families affected by domestic and family violence, including strategies to assess, monitor and minimise risk to family members and workers o on understanding the dynamics of DFV and targeted responses that promote safer outcomes for families • Maintain a strong focus on duty-of-care by conducting ongoing assessment of threat of harm and other risk factors, and take appropriate steps • Participate in client home visits • Work jointly with other FWS workers to ensure the domestic/family violence support needs of the family and/or family members are met • Assist with assessment of client needs, and decisions regarding case management and referral pathway to specialist domestic and family violence, sexual violence and women’s support services • Participate in relevant local network meetings, Integrated Service Response (ISR), High Risk Teams (HRT) and Local Level Alliances (LLA) that are specific to supporting services addressing domestic and family violence in the catchment area • Maintain an understanding of all contemporary DFV legislation and guidelines and practices including the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 • Work within the ‘Safe and Together’ Principles and provide psycho education to clients when Required Qualifications and Experience • Tertiary qualifications in Human Services or relevant discipline (not essential) minimum Certificate IV in Community Services (or prepared to study and obtain skills and qualifications) • Experience working in family violence service delivery • Knowledge and experience in child protection settings and practice • Experience collaborating with teams and facilitating D&FV education that supports professional development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff members • Experience at successful service delivery to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people • Sound knowledge of child safety & wellbeing • Awareness of parenting models and theories • Ability to use and perform within strengths-based service delivery • Ability to operate within a case management model and adopt the QATSCIPP practice framework and Standards • Knowledge of or the ability to acquire knowledge of the relevant government statutes governing statutory child protection work (i.e. Child Protection Act 1999) and Domestic and Family Violence work (i.e. Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012) and the ability to keep current of the legislative, practice and procedural changes within the system Required Licenses and Checks • Ability to pass a National Police Check – no Serious/Criminal/Court Records • Current Blue Card (Queensland’s Working with Children Check) • Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld) • Proof of qualifications and current registration (as appropriate) are to be provided prior to commencement of employment • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER PEOPLE are strongly encouraged to apply for this role Why work for TAIHS TAIHS provides access to an employee assistance program and access to learning and development opportunities.
