Underground Coal Electrician – Diesel Workshop Deftec | Bowen Basin | 7/7 Rotating Roster (Day / Night / Afternoon) | Immediate Start Full‑Time | Mining Services | Underground Coal The Role Deftec is seeking an experienced Underground Coal Electrician to join our Diesel Workshop team supporting underground coal operations across the Bowen Basin . This role is primarily based in the Diesel Workshop , maintaining and supporting the underground diesel fleet. You will be required to regularly travel underground to attend breakdowns, fault‑finding and urgent repairs on equipment in‑situ. The position operates on a 7/7 rotating roster , cycling through day, night and afternoon shifts . This role suits electricians who are comfortable with shift work and confident working both in the workshop and underground when required . ️ Key Responsibilities Perform scheduled maintenance, overhauls and inspections on diesel fleet electrical systems in the workshop Respond to underground breakdowns for fault‑finding, repairs and recommissioning of equipment Diagnose and repair electrical faults on underground mobile and fixed plant Ensure all work complies with site safety systems, statutory requirements and electrical standards Accurately complete job cards, reports and maintenance documentation Provide technical support to operations and workshop teams Contribute to reliability and continuous improvement initiatives ✅ Essential Requirements Minimum 12 months underground coal mining experience (mandatory) QLD Electrical Fitter/Mechanic Licence (Interstate equivalent accepted initially) EEHA competencies Current Standard 11 (Underground) Current QLD Coal Board Medical Current LVR / CPR Australian Driver’s Licence Willing and physically capable of regular underground work and rotating shifts Full Australian working rights What We’re Looking For Qualified Electrical Tradesperson with UG coal experience Strong diesel fleet electrical knowledge and fault‑finding skills Comfortable rotating through day, night and afternoon shifts Confident transitioning between workshop‑based work and underground call‑outs Solid understanding of mining electrical safety legislation Safety‑focused, reliable and able to work autonomously underground Clear communicator and strong team contributor What We Offer 7/7 rotating roster (Day / Night / Afternoon) Excellent hourly rates Accommodation and meals provided Flights available Overtime available Paid training and competency development Exposure to modern underground diesel and electrical systems Strong site support and safety‑first culture Long‑term career opportunities within Deftec About Deftec Deftec is a specialist electrical engineering company delivering industrial automation, control systems and industrial IT services across mining, water and utilities.
