The key duties of the position include: The Role The Maritime Integrated Warfare Systems (MIWS) Branch is seeking professional, motivated and experienced EL 1 Engineering Professionals to support the maintenance delivery and sustainment of cutting edge capability. You will be part of a dynamic team overseeing the update, upgrade and upkeep of integrated warfare and combat systems for the Royal Australian Navy’s surface fleet, and their related support systems. This may include the coordination of maintenance activities with the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), in regional maintenance centres, at the waterfront, or out at sea. Ideally, you will have a maritime background, with experience across one or more of the following; marine engineering, mechanical engineering, combat systems, electrical, communication, mechanical, and mechatronics. Principal Maintenance Manager (PMM): This position is responsible for the assurance of Organic and External Maintenance activities for combat systems across the in-service surface fleet as well as the day to day engineering maintenance tasks and activities including regular and corrective maintenance. Responsibilities include (but not limited to): Ensure that planned, urgent and rolling maintenance activities align with the baselines set by the Principal Engineer (PE), and are in accordance with MIWS Authorised Materiel Seaworthiness Delivery Organisation (AMSDO). Assurance of external maintenance periods and organic and external condition based maintenance activities, in collaboration with various stakeholders including: Class Lifecycle Engineer Officer (CLEO), Regional Maintenance Centres (RMCs), PE, and Principal Support Manager (PSM). Assurance of maintenance systems for new products acquisitions. Ensure risks associated with deficiencies in specific elements of the maintenance regime are articulated, mitigated So Far As Reasonably Practicable (SFARP) and escalated if necessary to the relevant authorities. Engage effectively with the PSM and the PE to achieve a coordinated AMSDO response to the requirements of the Operating and Support Intent (OSI) and the Materiel Support Management Plan (MSMP). This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. Eligibility Security Clearance: Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at Negative Vetting Level 1. Mandatory Qualifications: This engineering position requires a Bachelor of Engineering from an Australian institution, or a qualification gained elsewhere, that satisfies the requirements of the Washington Accord for recognition as a Professional Engineer. This engineering position may require the individual to be able to meet the requirements of Chartered Professional Engineer (Engineers Australia), Registered Professional Engineer (Professionals Australia) or Fellow/Member of Royal Institution of Naval Architects or demonstrated the ability to obtain such status within 12 months.
