The Opportunity As our Extension Officer (Extensive Livestock Systems) you will: Work within the DPI Extensive Livestock Systems extension team to deliver a capacity building and best practices adoption program, with a particular focus on livestock producers within Southern Queensland.Develop, organise and execute grazing land management, animal production and livestock business extension activities utilising the Extension Model of Practice, including the delivery of a wide range of community and stakeholder engagement events and extension materials in line with project deliverables.Build relationships and rapport with producers and industry stakeholders through a suite of extension methodologies including one-on-one support, peer to peer groups, workshops, field days and eExtension.Respond and work with producers to identify and implement opportunities to improve the productivity and resilience of their feedbase, primarily by supporting the adoption of whole of business best practices.Utilise established eExtension networks and contribute written materials (case studies, newsletter articles, social media posts) in line with project deliverables.Participate in field-based demonstration sites on commercial livestock properties and on Queensland Government research facilities. What We Are Looking For There are some qualifications that we see as essential. Mandatory Qualifications It is a mandatory requirement for a professional officer to possess an Australian bachelor's degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in Animal, Agricultural or Environmental Science from a recognised tertiary institution. Commitment to obtaining vaccination or provision of evidence of prior immunity to Q fever will be required prior to starting. Desirable Attributes Industry Understanding:Understanding of the Queensland and/or Northern Australia livestock (beef, sheep or goat) industries.Physical and Environmental Demands:Willingness to undertake physically demanding fieldwork in hot, sometimes wet, humid environments, and at relatively remote, isolated properties in accordance with WHS policies and procedures.Travel and Flexibility:Flexibility to undertake occasional travel to other locations with overnight stays.
