The Retail Manager acts as the principal site leader responsible for commercial oversight, operational structure, and regulatory compliance. Position Purpose The Retail Manager is responsible for the full operational management of PETRO PRO PTY LTD’s Temora retail site, ensuring fuel and convenience operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and profitably. The role oversees site performance, staffing coordination, financial controls, and stock management while ensuring the business meets its obligations under relevant workplace, safety, and fuel handling regulations. In a regional trading environment, this role also requires strong accountability and the ability to manage operational continuity with minimal oversight. Key Duties and Responsibilities The Retail Manager will undertake responsibilities including, but not limited to: • Managing end-to-end daily operations of the fuel forecourt and convenience retail store to ensure structured workflow and uninterrupted trading activity. • Supervising retail team members across all shifts, providing leadership, performance oversight, and ongoing coaching to maintain operational discipline and customer service consistency. • Monitoring fuel volume sales, retail product performance, gross margins, and transactional data to drive revenue optimisation and informed commercial decision-making. • Managing stock procurement, supplier coordination, stock rotation, and shrinkage control to maintain accurate inventory levels and minimise financial loss. • Overseeing fuel handling procedures and ensuring compliance with relevant safety standards, environmental controls, and operational risk management protocols. • Reviewing local competitor pricing and market trends to support commercially responsive fuel and retail pricing strategies. • Managing customer enquiries and escalated matters professionally to maintain brand reputation and repeat patronage. • Controlling cash management processes including daily reconciliations, banking procedures, POS accuracy, and financial reporting integrity. • Preparing and reviewing operational performance reports, stock variance analysis, and sales summaries to support business oversight. • Developing and managing staff rosters in alignment with trading demands and workplace compliance requirements. • Recruiting, onboarding, and mentoring retail staff to ensure workforce stability and performance continuity. • Monitoring operational expenditure including labour costs, utilities, and stock-related costs to protect site profitability. • Ensuring strict compliance with workplace health and safety obligations, fuel retail regulations, and internal company procedures. Skills and Professional Competencies The successful candidate will demonstrate: • Proven leadership capability within a structured retail or fuel service environment. • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to interpret sales metrics, fuel margins, and stock performance indicators. • Practical understanding of regulated retail operations, including safety-sensitive environments. • Proficiency in retail point-of-sale systems, stock control processes, and financial reconciliation procedures. • Ability to manage high-traffic trading periods while maintaining operational composure and service quality. • Strong organisational discipline and clear communication skills supporting effective team coordination. Qualifications and Experience AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma, or Diploma in Retail Management, Business, or a related field, together with at least one year of relevant retail management experience. Alternatively, a minimum of three years of relevant experience in retail site management, service station operations, or convenience retail supervision may substitute for formal qualifications. Experience within a petroleum or fuel retail environment will be highly regarded.
