The Gig Ready to step in as a trusted SPE on technically challenging water projects? We’re looking for an experienced, technically strong Project Engineer looking to step up or a current SPE who enjoys being close to the work and taking ownership of delivery. Based in Sydney, this role reports directly to a Project Manager and offers the opportunity to play a key role across major Sydney Water infrastructure projects, including pipelines, pump stations, and treatment facilities. Working across live construction environments, you’ll drive engineering delivery from early works through to commissioning. You’ll balance technical problem-solving with commercial awareness, coordinating subcontractors, managing design interfaces, and ensuring works are delivered in line with Sydney Water specifications, approvals, and safety requirements. You’ll act as the critical link between site teams, designers, and client stakeholders. Engineering leadership sits at its core, you’ll manage technical risk, quality, and constructability, while supporting cost and program control on site. Calm under pressure and decisive in delivery, you make clear calls that keep works moving safely and to standard. You’ll be trusted with: Delivering key scopes on Sydney Water infrastructure projects, including pipelines and treatment assets Managing technical, safety, quality, and environmental outcomes on site Coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, and internal crews to maintain program Reviewing designs, resolving technical issues, and managing RFIs and hold points Supporting cost control, forecasting, variations, and progress claims Driving construction planning, methodologies, and sequencing with the Project Director Ensuring works comply with Sydney Water standards, specifications, and approvals Building strong relationships with client reps, designers, supervisors, and delivery teams Mentoring Project Engineers and supporting broader team capability What’s in your toolbox? Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent 6 years’ experience delivering civil infrastructure projects Demonstrated experience on Sydney Water works (pipelines, pump stations, or treatment plants) Strong technical capability across water and utilities construction Solid understanding of ITPs, quality systems, and construction compliance Commercial awareness with experience supporting costs, variations, and claims You’re the kind of person who is practical, calm under pressure, and comfortable owning your scope. You know how to balance engineering detail with delivery realities, and you earn trust through follow-through rather than noise.
