About the role We are seeking emotionally intelligent professionals at the APS5 level to be engaged as a Community and Peer Worker with our Commonwealth Government client. The successful candidate will provide services for personalised peer support to current and former Australian military personnel and their families who are/have experienced challenges or issues across their lifespan. An initial labour hire contract for 18 months is on offer, with the possibility of extension. Multiple opportunities are available to candidates seeking full-time work and who are located in Darwin, NT. Please note: the successful candidate must be an Australian citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a Baseline security clearance. A Working with Children Clearance/Working with Vulnerable People Check and completion of a pre-engagement check will also be required prior to commencing in the position. Duties: Deliver personalised peer support to current and former ADF members and their families, helping them set recovery goals and develop tailored action plans. Use your lived experience to build strong, respectful relationships and support clients in improving their mental wellbeing. Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to case reviews and co-facilitating group programs. Represent the organisation in the veteran community, building networks and promoting access to services. Maintain accurate records and uphold confidentiality in line with policies and procedures. Requisite skills/qualifications: Personal Lived Experience of military service or military family life, including navigating mental health challenges (either directly or as a carer/support person). Ability to use Lived Experience to support and educate others, drawing on diverse life experiences. Strong communication skills, with the ability to promote recovery-focused, trauma-informed mental health support to clients, colleagues and community. High integrity, emotional intelligence, and commitment to confidentiality and privacy. Desirable qualifications and experience: Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (or willingness to obtain). Experience delivering peer support based on Lived Experience. Background in mental health, mentoring, coaching or individual support.
