Indigo Shire Council is seeking an experienced cultural heritage specialist to fill the role of Cultural Heritage Manager, providing professional leadership and strategic oversight of cultural heritage across the nationally significant Beechworth Historic Precinct, and key heritage locations throughout the Shire. Reporting to the Historic Precinct & Visitor Experience Manager, this role is the organisation’s senior professional authority for cultural heritage. It leads cultural heritage strategy, adherence to professional standards, exhibitions development, and strategic oversight of museum collections, while working collaboratively with tourism and visitor experience teams to ensure heritage is respectfully and effectively integrated into public experiences. This position manages specialist functions delivered by the Collections Manager and their team, and provides authoritative advice to Council, community groups, and external partners. It does not manage front-of-house operations, visitor services, or attraction staffing. This role will suit a senior museum, heritage, or curatorial professional seeking a strategic, influential position focused on stewardship, standards, and long-term heritage outcomes rather than day-to-day visitor operations.
