Principal Manager Aboriginal Advisory Unit Location – Parramatta, Sydney (Hybrid role) Employment type – Ongoing, Full Time Salary – Clerk Grade 11/12 - $149,739 - $173,174 (plus employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading) This position is open to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only Your role Manage a team of Regional Aboriginal Pathways Officers in the provision of culturally specific expert advice and support to Correctional centre management and staff on strategies to reduce adult reoffending and ensure the safe and humane treatment of Aboriginal inmates whilst in custody. Partner with Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) management to develop cultural capability of staff in the correctional centres. What you’ll do • Participate in the management of the business centre and manage initiatives associated with the analysis and development of policy options, responses and proposals, to meet key CSNSW objectives. • Lead and undertake research, analysis and review of complex policy issues, identifying emerging issues, and developing evidence-based options and strategies, to ensure problems are resolved and risks are mitigated. • Develop and oversight proposals for legislative and other reform to address issues of government and community concern. • Support the Director in the management and facilitation of strategic planning and reporting activities to assist the development of business plans aligned with organisational and government directions. • Provide expert advice and information to inform relevant stakeholders and support policy and strategic planning directions. • Support the Director in meeting policy and strategic planning commitments and/or roll-out of significant policy and strategic planning initiatives. • Develop and implement strategies for the monitoring and evaluation of all policy and strategic planning initiatives to identify risks and issues and ensure the achievement of desired outcomes. • Lead and facilitate internal and external stakeholder engagement, consultation and negotiation on policy issues to identify and develop solutions and make recommendations that account for relevant factors and support sound policy decisions and approaches. • Oversee the preparation of reports, briefs and correspondence to inform or respond to organisational and/or Government requests. • Provide leadership to team members, manage their performance, and provide counsel and feedback to ensure organisational and personal development objectives are achieved. What we’re looking for • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons. • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience • Driver Licence and willingness to drive and travel anywhere within NSW. • Understanding of the issues facing Aboriginal offenders in the criminal justice system. • Aboriginal cultural competence and ability to engage with multiple stakeholders both internal and external to Corrective Services NSW. • Demonstrated cultural capability, which includes lived experience, knowledge and understanding of contemporary social issues affecting Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people, including skills in identifying and/or responding to the diverse needs of Aboriginal people experiencing significant trauma and disadvantage.
