The General Practitioner is to be a multi-skilled practitioner who, as part of a team, contributes to the provision of high-quality health care in the general practice setting. Her/his function is to carry out the role(s) of clinician, manager, educator, researcher, consultant, counsellor and advisor and is accountable to the practice for these functions. The General Practitioner is accountable to the Managing Medical Principal for all issues. The General Practitioner is expected to be: 1 punctual 2 neatly dressed (uniform optional) 3 of tidy appearance befitting professional status and duties 4 well spoken and able to clearly express him/herself 5 able to access appropriate transport Qualifications Primary Qualification This person must be MEDICAL PRACTITIONER REGISTERED TO PRACTICE IN VICTORIA. Additional Qualifications Post graduate qualifications relevant to General Practice Additional Experience In addition the General Practitioner would have experience, in the following setting where care is necessary for patients at clinic, patients home, hospital, hostel or nursing homes would be viewed as advantageous. Statement of Duties Clinical services The following is a list of duties to be undertaken by the General Practioner. From time to time she/he will be expected to undertake relief work, and tasks may vary from those listed. All designated tasks are to be performed to a satisfactory standard. The General Practitioner will provide treatment to patients and, where appropriate, delegated medical services in the clinical setting. For example: - Carry out an assessment of the health status of individuals and families using an holistic framework - Work in partnership with patients on identified issues -Systematically collect comprehensive information concerning the patient's level of health -Provide ongoing consultations that include but are not limted to: Consultation with patients Referring patients to specialist services Providing appropriate treatment Gathering of information regarding allergies, cultural and social background, family related medical histories Mental health Organising travel vaccinations Initiating and implementing chronic disease management plans Work place medicals Work compensation injuries Annual Health Assessments for 75 yo and over Supervising medical students in their GP placements Minor surgical procedures Wound assessment Cryotherapy Antenatal care Team care arrangement plans Pap smears Participate and contribute to staff meetings Promoting health education Communication with other health care providers Practice management Emergency care and referrals Driving fitness assessments Preventative health services Provision of after hours medical care/ emergency on call Home visit consultations Nursing home visits Legal/ medical reports Centrelink reports Veteran Affairs reports and medcial examinations *Telephone calls to patients Professional Development The Managing Medical Preincipal encourages further training by allowing time off when appropriate.
