What's the role? Seeking a Senior Shopping Writer - Travel to create and optimise shopping articles and own the production of short-form shopping video - from storyboarding, to shooting, to presenting — across Escape and news.com.au Checkout. This is a hybrid editorial/creator role. You won’t just write about products - you’ll bring them to life on camera. You’ll bring curiosity, creativity and performance focus, covering everything from deals and sales events to new products and trends. This will be offered as a 12 Month Max Term parental leave contract, starting in late May 2026. Key Responsibilities: Content creation (written) : Write engaging, revenue-driving shopping stories, including major sales events (EOFY, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Prime Day, Christmas, Boxing Day). Video production (short-form) : Independently storyboard, script, shoot, present and edit short-form shopping video for platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and YouTube Shorts. Video collaboration (long-form) : Work with the in-house video team to develop and front longer-form horizontal content. Optimisation: Manage, update and expand existing articles to improve traffic, conversion and affiliate revenue; use data to refine output. Ideas & growth: Pitch commercial and editorial concepts across written and video formats; develop repeatable video series that drive scale and revenue. Reporting: Contribute to pacing and monthly performance reports covering traffic, video views and revenue insights. Collaboration: Work closely with editorial, partnerships, social and video teams to ensure shopping content connects across platforms (including EDMs and shoppable video). Industry representation: Attend launches, events and occasional famils to stay across products and trends. Who are you? Minimum 2 years’ experience writing high-performing digital content at pace. Strong understanding of SEO and affiliate-driven content. Demonstrated experience storyboarding, shooting, presenting and editing short-form social video. Confident and natural on camera, with the ability to explain products clearly and engagingly. Comfortable filming independently using phone or lightweight production equipment. Able to edit short-form video to platform best practice (hooks, pacing, captions, native style). Organised and methodical, with a performance-driven mindset. Able to juggle deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced newsroom environment. A proactive self-starter who spots opportunities and wants to accelerate the growth of News Corp’s eCommerce business. Newsroom experience, affiliate knowledge, experience creating shoppable or engaging audience first driven video content is highly desired.
