Balanced Earth is a Byron Bay-based sustainable building team dedicated to crafting healthy, low-impact spaces using hempcrete, rammed earth and natural materials that respect both people and the planet. We’re looking for a skilled Carpenter to join our crew, responsible for constructing, installing and repairing timber structures and fittings across our innovative build sites. This role will be a key point of contact on site, managing day-to-day queries, addressing delays and challenges, and upholding the high standards of quality, safety and sustainability that define our work. Location: Byron Bay, NSW Salary range: $70,000 - $90,000 (depending on the skills and experience) Role: Full-time Key responsibilities & duties: -Review and analyse project plans, drawings, and technical specifications to identify job requirements and construction methods. - Select and order timber/materials and prepare layouts accordingly - Measure, mark, and set out materials to ensure accurate alignment with design and structural needs. - Prepare, cut, and assemble timber and other materials using appropriate tools and equipment. - Build, install, and modify structural elements including wall systems, building frameworks, subfloors, ceiling frames, and roof components. - Install doors, window units, and associated fixtures, ensuring correct operation and fit. - Carry out finishing carpentry tasks, including fitting trims, mouldings, and interior timber detailing. - Fit and install skirting boards, architraves and other decorative moulding to enhance the aesthetic appeal of interiors. - Work collaboratively with site supervisors and other trades to maintain workflow and resolve on-site challenges. - Identify construction issues or design variations and communicate them to relevant stakeholders for action. - Follow established quality procedures and safety standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory and project requirements. - Maintain an organized work environment, manage off-cuts and waste, and adhere to environmental and site management policies. Qualifications, Work experience and Skills: Minimum Certificate III in Carpentry, or equivalent Minimum of 1- 2 years’ experience working as a carpenter Australian work experience is essential Good mathematical aptitude Strong attention to detail and accuracy in workmanship Effective time management skills Well-developed communication skills Physically capable of handling heavy materials White Card Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.
