Your Employer Our client, a well-established piggery operation in McMillans, VIC, is seeking experienced Animal Husbandry Technicians to join their team. These full-time positions are available across both the Grow Out and Farrowing Units, offering technically skilled professionals the opportunity to apply specialised husbandry practices in the care and management of pigs. Your Role As an Animal Husbandry Technician, you will assist with the technical care, breeding, and health management of pigs. Key Responsibilities Monitor pig health, condition, and behaviour to assess welfare and performance outcomes. Assist with sow reproduction programs, including heat detection, artificial insemination, pregnancy testing, and farrowing support. Provide technical advice on nutrition and treatment protocols, including the use of pig-specific feed additives and vaccines. Maintain detailed records of pig performance, breeding data, health interventions, and treatment plans. Operate, calibrate, and maintain equipment used to monitor pig health and environmental conditions. Collect and analyse data for use in herd improvement and production efficiency. Support the setup and maintenance of pens, feeding systems, and shed hygiene in accordance with industry standards. Collaborate with farm management and veterinary teams to enhance biosecurity, herd health, and reproductive outcomes. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at maximising herd productivity and welfare. Provide guidance to farm staff on pig handling, animal welfare, and safe operating procedures. Skills & Experience Qualifications : Diploma in Animal Science, Agriculture, or a related field. Experience : Minimum 3 years working with pigs in a farm, research, or veterinary setting. Knowledge of pig behaviour, reproduction, and nutrition. Hands-on experience with breeding programs and farrowing operations. Familiarity with animal monitoring systems and livestock handling equipment. Strong record-keeping and reporting skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a practical piggery environment. Good communication and training skills to support team development.
