About the role A unique opportunity has arisen within the Mater Mothers’ Hospital Brisbane, requesting Expressions of Interests to join the 12-month internal Leave Cover Pool for the role of Clinical Midwifery Consultant - Consumer Navigation . The Clinical Midwifery Consultant (CMC) is a Registered Nurse/Midwife who provides expert clinical consultancy, takes a lead role in the promotion of contemporary Nursing/Midwifery practice, is actively involved in research, education and continuous quality improvement and facilitates the development of Nursing/Midwifery services across the continuum of care. Supporting consumers and their families through care coordination, advocacy and education. By working across multiple specialties, it aims to reduce service fragmentation and improve access for consumers throughout health services for Mater Mothers’ patients. The CMC is expected to operate beyond the traditional silos of care and work with other healthcare providers to address the needs of the consumer The CMC will liaise closely with Nursing/Midwifery Unit Managers, Medical, Nursing and Midwifery, Practice Development and Allied Health staff. The CMC will provide a central point of communication and engagement to ensure optimal care and coordination of services along a patient’s entire health care journey within Mater Mothers’ Hospitals. Communicating directly with our VMO’s and clinical teams in providing support for- High risk ante-natal assessment Maternal admission planning Pregnancy loss Surrogacy Nursery admission planning As well as leading local and state-wide private growth opportunities including virtual midwifery services, partnering with consumer, developing patient information and designing methods of engagement with Mater Mothers across the state. What you’ll be doing The Clinical Midwifery Consultant (CMC) will be responsible for coordinating a multi-disciplinary approach to monitor high needs patients, identify actions to manage their health care and direct patients to the right service, at the right time and in the right place. The CMC will provide a central point of communication and engagement to ensure optimal care and coordination of services along a patient’s entire health care journey within Mater Mothers’ Hospital. Other duties and responsibilities include: Promoting and supporting a culture of woman and family centred care Engagement with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that services are efficient and patient safety is optimized Acts as a role model and demonstrates leadership as an expert clinician within the speciality to support clinical staff in their delivery of care and professional development activities. Provides leadership and contributes to the development and management of clinical practice. Participates in own role review. Maintains current knowledge relevant to the speciality in accordance with best practice, legal and professional standards and participates in upskilling of others in collaboration with the Mater Education (ME). Communicates and collaborates effectively with Nursing/Midwifery management, education, and practice Participation in the development of teams and colleagues. Working effectively with individuals, groups and as a member of an interdisciplinary team and facilitating collaboration. About you Suitable applicants for this role will be a Registered or Clinical Midwife with: Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Midwife Current advanced clinical knowledge and experience in the continuum of pregnancy, birth and postnatal care Further Graduate Certificate level education in advanced nursing/midwifery care, or leadership and management, or working towards same Well-developed interpersonal and communication (both verbal and written) skills Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary environment Advanced clinical competency and the ability to maintain the highest standards of midwifery practice Exceptional interpersonal, communication and time management skills within a multidisciplinary team Demonstrated application of the principles of risk management and quality improvement in a clinical environment Strong leadership ability and experience, and the desire to promote the Mater mission and values to all staff The successful applicant s will be provided with an orientation to the role requirements and will be well supported by the Mater Mothers' Hospitals Management team.
