About the Business Unit: The Department of Justice and Community Safety has established a new business unit, Liquor Control Victoria, to support the independent Victorian Liquor Commission which was created on 1 July 2022. Liquor Control Victoria supports the independent Commission by providing strategic, operational, and administrative support and by performing various regulatory functions under delegation. The Victorian Liquor Commission, supported by Liquor Control Victoria, is responsible for issuing liquor licences and overseeing industry compliance and enforcement to ensure that Victorians and visitors to the state enjoy safe and responsible liquor licensed environments. We are strengthening our focus on harm minimisation and assessment of community impacts as part of our regulatory approach following major reforms to liquor licencing laws that commenced in 2022. About the Role: Reporting to the Manager, Compliance (Metro) this role is primarily responsible for supervising a team of Inspectors carrying out inspections, investigations, and enforcement functions. These functions include attendance at venues for compliance inspections, surveillance and compiling reports and other documents for the purposes of prosecution or disciplinary action. When required, the Team Leader will directly undertake some compliance functions, such as investigation and enforcement activity in more complex or sensitive cases. The role requires the flexibility to work afternoon, evening and weekend shifts and may require some overnight travel to regional Victoria. Some of your duties will include: Leading and managing a team of Inspectors undertaking compliance functions including, inspections, investigations, and surveillance of liquor venues Providing guidance to Inspectors on initiating appropriate enforcement action using appropriate judgement and discretion and relevant Liquor Control Victoria policies and procedures, in response to identified breaches of laws, regulations or conditions Reviewing and, when required, preparing prosecution briefs for alleged breaches of legislation administered by the Victorian Liquor Commission Approving enforcement actions recommended by Inspectors in accordance with Liquor Control Victoria's policy and procedures Conducting complex and sensitive investigations concerning probity issues and alleged breaches of the legislation and regulations, liaising and collaborating with relevant law enforcement agencies, where appropriate Preparing accurate and thorough reports, briefing papers and correspondence on all inspection and compliance activity in accordance with operational procedures.
