Platform Engineer (Developer Experience) Sydney | Defence Sector | Mission-Critical Platforms We're partnering with a defence-aligned technology organisation delivering platforms that support mission-critical capabilities. As engineering teams scale, they're investing in platform engineering to improve how software is built, tested and delivered - and are looking for a Platform Engineer focused on Developer Experience (DevEx). This is not a traditional infrastructure role. The focus is on building platform capabilities that reduce friction for developers, standardise delivery, and enable secure, repeatable engineering practices across complex environments. The role You'll work within the platform engineering function designing and building internal platform capabilities that make it easier for engineering teams to ship software safely and efficiently. Key responsibilities include: Build and evolve internal developer platforms and shared engineering services Create "paved road" solutions for build, deploy and runtime environments Improve CI/CD pipelines and software delivery workflows Develop self-service tooling and automation for engineering teams Standardise environments using Infrastructure as Code and platform patterns Partner closely with developers to identify delivery bottlenecks and remove friction Embed security and compliance into platform workflows (secure by default) Drive consistency across mission-critical systems operating in regulated environments What you'll bring Experience as a Platform Engineer, DevOps Engineer or Software Engineer working on delivery platforms Strong CI/CD experience and modern engineering practices Hands-on experience with cloud and/or container platforms Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform, Bicep, Pulumi or similar) Scripting or development capability (Python, Go, Bash or similar) Experience improving developer workflows and engineering enablement Ability to work across teams and influence engineering standards Nice to have Kubernetes or container orchestration experience Internal Developer Platform (IDP) exposure Experience in defence, government or highly regulated environments Secure software delivery or compliance-driven engineering experience Why join Work on technology that directly supports mission-critical outcomes Platform engineering role with real ownership and impact Strong investment in engineering maturity and tooling Collaborative Sydney-based team environment Long-term programme work with stability and purpose
