The key duties of the position include The Role The Mental Health and Wellbeing Branch is seeking a motivated APS6 Physical Wellbeing Officer to support the delivery of physical wellbeing initiatives across Defence. In this role, you will help strengthen a coordinated, preventive and holistic approach to wellbeing, recognising the connection between physical, mental, spiritual and social wellbeing, as well as the broader social determinants of health. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will: Undertake research and data analysis, translating this into actionable insights. Develop, refine and support the implementation of physical wellbeing policy and programs. Coordinate the delivery of wellbeing initiatives to ensure practical and consistent application across Defence. Provide evidence-based advice on physical wellbeing, informed by its connection to mental, spiritual and social wellbeing domains. Create practical tools and guidance materials that build wellbeing literacy and support applied practice. Contribute to wellbeing measurement, analysis and insights to support proactive, data-informed decisions. Build effective relationships with stakeholders to support integrated wellbeing delivery. About our Team The Mental Health and Wellbeing Branch is the lead for Workforce Mental Health policy and programs and enables the assured and continuous improvement of Mental Health & Wellbeing across the Defence enterprise. The Branch comprised of military members and civilian employees, forms an inter-disciplinary team focused on improving the mental health and wellbeing of the Defence community. A primary function of the Branch is the facilitation and implementation of the Defence and Veteran Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2025-2030. The Strategic Advisory Group (SAG) is a high-functioning team of Allied and Public Health subject matter experts responsible for coordinating, reviewing and providing evidence-centred research based on contemporary literature, practices and trends to improve Defence's mental health, wellbeing and suicide prevention system. Within SAG, the Prevention and Population Wellbeing Directorate leads Defence's enterprise approach to upstream harm prevention, population health determinants, and the translation of research into practical policy and program outcomes. Our Ideal Candidate You will be well suited to this role if you bring: Knowledge and practical experience in physical wellbeing. This may include areas such as injury prevention, exercise physiology, physiotherapy, exercise science, workplace rehabilitation or related disciplines. Knowledge of or interest in public health would also be highly regarded. Experience undertaking research and data analysis, and translating this into plain English actionable insights. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing briefs, resources and advice for diverse audiences. Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships and support coordinated outcomes across multiple stakeholders. Experience delivering projects or initiatives within agreed time frames and resources.
