The occupant of this position is a member of the Operational Technology and Engineering (OTE) Section. The role of the OTE Section is to ensure the development, delivery and operation of measurement equipment and systems meet the Bureau's performance and functional requirements. This includes the following sensors/networks: Radar and Wind Profilers Automatic Weather Stations Solar Radiation Upper Air Flood Warning Sea Level Operational Technology and Engineering bring together a diverse group of specialists and engineers who develop and support advanced engineering and technology solutions. The team delivers critical technical support across a broad suite of systems-including radars, rainfall stations, drifting buoys, dedicated observation platforms, satellites, and ship based technologies-to enable the organisation to meet its operational and business needs. This position focuses on the activities to support the Bureau's current and future network of Automatic Weather Stations, particularly the software, testing, configuration and rollout aspects of these systems. The key duties of the position include The successful candidate will have responsibility to ensure the Automatic Weather Station Network meets the Bureau's current and future needs. To deliver this, the position holder will be broadly responsible to undertake the following duties: Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of data acquisition (DAQ), remote terminal (RTU) or other monitoring equipment (operation, maintenance, and integration with other systems), particularly in relation to data ingestion and external control mechanisms. Design, review, and maintain software and scripts in Python and C++, in alignment with established development processes. Lead and support the planning, execution, and documentation of equipment testing activities to ensure reliability and performance. Drive the creation of operational documentation necessary for the deployment and maintenance of instrument systems. Interpret strategic objectives and outcomes, identify potential challenges and uncertainties, and incorporate these insights into planning, decision-making, and implementation processes. Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, fostering clear communication and positively influencing team outcomes. Exercise Financial Delegation in accordance with Bureau Policies including holding a Commonwealth Government Credit Card. Assess delivered equipment and systems to ensure compliance with technical requirements, legislation, policies, and regulatory standards. Review activities to identify success factors and actively contribute to continuous improvement and innovation initiatives. Promote the integration of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) considerations into the design and implementation of Bureau equipment and systems. Adhere to all Bureau Work Health and Safety policies and procedures, ensuring personal safety and the wellbeing of colleagues, contractors, and visitors. Support the quality and effectiveness of products and services, contributing to the ongoing development and enhancement of the quality management system to maintain ISO 9001 certification.
