The Sovereign Hill Museums Association is a not-for profit community-based organisation that includes: Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, Sovereign Hill Hotel, AURA and Narmbool, the Australian Centre for Rare Trades and Arts and the Australian Centre for Gold Rush Collections. It cares for a nationally and internationally significant collection of over 150,000 objects and protects the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Victorian gold rush. We are an Australian tourism icon that attracts some 500,000 visitors annually. The Outdoor Museum is internationally renowned as a living museum featuring rare trades, and programs and experiences that interpret a pivotal point in Australia's history. In all, some 350 staff work to bring our gold-rush story to life. They are supported by over 250 volunteers. About the Role - This public facing role within the Horse & Small Animal Department at Sovereign Hill is an important aspect of enhancing the visitor experience here at one of the most famous working Museums in the World. Handling horses and small animals safely in a busy outdoor environment whilst engaging with the public, providing factual information and stories is a vital part of this role. This role is for people with sound horse handling skills who have the availability to work on weekends and public holidays. Duties & Responsibilities Safely feed, care for and handle large breed working horses in particular Clydesdales and Australian Draught Horses, including harnessing, hitching in and out of vehicles and moving from paddock to paddock. Work cohesively in an established team of people to ensure the day-to-day operations of the department are achieved to a high standard Have the confidence and a proud energy to wear costume and immerse into a role and environment that represents the Gold Rush era Desired Skillset Confidently and with competence, the ability to safely handle horses of varied ages Child Safety and Criminal History Checks – Sovereign Hill is committed to child safety.
