As part of this continual improvement, they work closely with Hort Innovation to ensure the industry levy funded Research and Development and Marketing programs for the Australian avocado industry are well directed, achieve the best outcomes possible and responsive to industry needs. The Opportunity: Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Communications Manager is responsible for the overall development and delivery of Avocados Australia’s industry-facing communication program. You will work within a small team of energetic and innovative people focussed on supporting the ongoing development of the Australian avocado industry. The avocado industry communication program maintains communication with key stakeholders, in order to share industry-related information and provide the opportunity to grow and improve the business prospects of Australian avocado growers. The role coordinates a range of activities to deliver the overall industry communication strategy. Some of the key responsibilities include: Working closely with the CEO, GM Operations and your team members to drive growth in the sector, utilising your key skills in communications As part of the Avocados Australia team, drive the ongoing development of the organisation’s communication program, analyse and advise on further opportunities for improvement Oversee the delivery of the externally funded avocado industry communications project, including project planning, implementation, reporting and budget management Develop and manage core industry communication deliverables including: the industry’s quarterly magazine Talking Avocados the industry website avocado.org.au (including the Best Practice Resource ) e newsletters and notices media relations industry social media crisis management plan Work with other Avocados Australia staff to assist in the planning and effective delivery of key events and activities both internally and externally Provide the function of Industry Liaison Officer if and when required for biosecurity response plans About You: We are keen to hear from you if you possess the following background, key skills and experience: Appropriate tertiary qualifications and at least two years’ experience in delivering relevant communication activities such as hard copy publications, website management, newsletters, social media management, public relations and media engagement High level interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with and gain the co-operation of all levels of management, staff and stakeholders High level organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple activities concurrently, prioritise work and meet deadlines Excellent copy-writing skills with a high level of attention to detail ideally with experience using website content management systems Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to prepare reports and submissions Demonstrated ability in creative design to produce visually engaging content Experience in monitoring, analysing and reporting on communication outputs e.g. web analytics, online surveys Competent use of relevant Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher), and familiarity with WordPress or similar website management platforms Experience with Canva, MailChimp, SurveyMonkey (or equivalent tools), podcasts and basic video editing An understanding of or exposure to rural and/or regional communities will help you build relationships with your constituents and a current driver’s licence is needed as some domestic travel will be is required.
