Your Opportunity Mission Australia's Café One (Cairns) is a social enterprise program which provides people with a history of rough sleeping and chronic homelessness and social exclusion the opportunity to participate in vocational training and employment. Operating since 2016, Café One is more than just a job; Café One is a step on the journey towards independence, giving participants a sense of pride, achievement, and to gain skills in order to become financially independent. The primary responsibility of the Café One Coordinator is to develop, prepare, support and assess the trainees who are undertaking the qualification of Certificate 1 in Hospitality and the barista course, in accordance with contractual and compliance requirements. The purpose of the program is to assist those vulnerable in the community to gain skills in order to become financially independent. Your key responsibilities will be to: Provide management of all Café One operations Coordination of volunteers and community engagement activities Ensuring that quality food and service are being provided compliant with QLD Health laws, regulations and Food Safety Standards Be responsible for the ordering of supplies of food and coffee Provide ongoing support to Trainees and assist Trainees to obtain employment or ongoing training following their traineeship Requirements for Success: Relevant degree (desirable) and/or formal qualification at trade level Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with people who have experienced long- term homelessness and the ability to work with disadvantaged people in a compassionate and effective manner Knowledge of food preparation, hygiene practices and workplace health and safety The ability to lead, supervise and mentor a group of Trainees Strong organisational and administrative skills The ability to work with limited supervision including prioritising work and managing time effectively The ability maintain professional boundaries The ability to cope with the physical demands of the position (such as prolonged standing, bending/squatting/twisting, lifting, reaching etc Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
