An excellent opportunity exists for an aspiring rates professional to gain experience in a senior role. The purpose of the Rates Specialist role is to provide specialist technical advice and oversight of Council’s rating function, ensuring the integrity, accuracy and effective operation of rates systems, controls and processes. The role supports Council to meet its statutory obligations and optimise revenue outcomes while maintaining community confidence. Working collaboratively with the CFO, Coordinator Revenue and the Revenue Team to address complex rating matters, embed organisational values and strengthen organisational capability. About the role: Deliver accurate and timely local government rating services in accordance with legislative and policy requirements Provide high‑quality, customer‑focused rates services, including responding to enquiries and resolving issues Coordinate and manage multiple tasks and workflows to meet deadlines and service standards Apply the Local Government Act, Regulations, guidelines and current rating industry practices in day‑to‑day operations Undertake debt recovery activities in line with best‑practice approaches and organisational procedures Perform reconciliations and maintain the accuracy and integrity of rating and revenue data Ensure a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work About you: Demonstrated experience providing specialist oversight of local government rating functions, including annual levies, land categorisation and collections Proven ability to maintain, balance and control a Land Value Register with a high degree of accuracy Strong end‑to‑end understanding of the rating lifecycle, including annual levies, instalments, supplementary and reminder notices Experience planning and leading debt recovery cycles in line with legislative requirements and best practice Sound knowledge of pensioner data verification processes and rebate subsidy claims Capability to train, coach and educate team members to build knowledge, consistency and service excellence Further information: View the position description online or contact Gail Johnston, Coordinator Revenue on 9093-6862
