The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing is seeking an experienced payroll specialist to join our busy and dynamic Payroll Services team. As an Assistant Pay Team Leader, you will play a key role in delivering accurate, timely and customer focused payroll services that support staff across multiple agencies. In this role, you will provide technical advice to team members and stakeholders, interpret and apply legislation and enterprise agreements, and oversee aspects of the fortnightly pay run. You will contribute to staff development by allocating work, monitoring performance and identifying training needs. You will also lead quality assurance activities, undertake complex payroll processing, and support audits, reporting and reconciliation. The key duties of the position include Delivers accurate, end to end payroll processing, including overseeing fortnightly pay runs in a high volume, time critical environment. Applies strong payroll expertise to research, analyse and validate data, ensuring quality assurance, compliance and integrity of payroll outcomes. Interprets and applies legislation, policy frameworks and enterprise agreements to support a range of APS employment arrangements. Leads and supports team members by allocating work, managing priorities and deadlines, and fostering a positive, collaborative team culture. Communicates clearly and professionally, exercising sound judgement and discretion when providing advice to diverse internal and external stakeholders. Uses SAP, Spinifex and Microsoft Office effectively to resolve issues, improve payroll accuracy and enhance operational efficiency. Plans and organises work proactively, identifying risks, solving problems and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
