JOB TITLE: School Based Trainee – Kitchen Operations FUNCTION:School Based Traineeship providing a pathway to work in Kitchen Operations whilst still at school. This qualification does not meet the requirements for trade recognition of cook, but can provide a pathway to achieving that. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Anticipate and attend to the guest’s needs and desires immediately. • To perform cooking duties including breakfast, snacks & baking• Work in the kitchen as directed on a daily basis. • Ensure that your work is carried out in a timely and efficient fashion. • To attend and be responsible for all training provided to you by the Chefs. • Minimise wastage at all times. • Maintain a clean and safe working area at all times. • Ensure that the established standard operating procedures are followed at all times. • Help produce an environment of learning and professionalism. • Carry out any other related duties as directed by the senior members of the kitchen staff. • Maintain your self-appearance in accordance with the hotel’s grooming standards. • Maintain a harmonious relationship with other members of the service team. • Maintain an acceptable degree of knowledge with regard to food product. • Comply with all of the established hotel operational policies & procedures. Have a full knowledge of, and practice all of the hotel’s established workplace health and safety guidelines (WH&S). • Perform any other duties as directed by the Executive Chef/Executive Sous Chef & Sous Chef. • Undertaking the Certificate 11 in Cookery as part of the Higher School Certificate• Complete all subject requirements as per School Based Trainee contract with both on the job and off the job delivery.• Commitment to undertake a minimum of 100 days in paid employment and training which can be undertaken during school time, after school and during school holidays.• Follow safety and hygiene protocols, including safe handling of food as well as maintaining a clean and safe work environment. Adhere to health and safety regulations.• Flexibility in work schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
