See yourself in our team: The Corporate and Treasury Legal team provides strategic advice to our internal clients to support and enhance CBA’s purpose and success. In addition to supporting CBA’s M&A and Treasury functions on transactions, the team works with a range of teams across CBA that require strategic corporate advice with a span across the entire organisation. Success in this role means being a trusted adviser on complex matters, valued for judgment, commercial insight and an ability to get things done collaboratively. Do work that matters: You will be a senior corporate lawyer with strong M&A experience who enjoys working in a fast-moving environment and values collaboration, curiosity and sound judgment. You will provide strategic, practical legal advice and be a strong and effective communicator, capable of working closely with a range of senior stakeholders across a diverse practice, both autonomously and alongside other lawyers. You are likely to regularly work directly with commercial stakeholders as an embedded part of a deal or project team. We are a team of highly skilled and collegiate lawyers who enjoy the benefits of working in-house close to the commercial side of transactions with high quality and challenging legal work. The matters are varied and may include assisting with: M&A and other corporate transactions such as joint ventures, investments and alliances, in addition to transition and integration projects; capital management such as buy-backs, capital raisings and funding transactions and advisory work supporting CBA’s ordinary shares and ASX listing; and special projects across the Group relating to regulatory and governance requirements, broad corporate advisory work including continuous disclosure, employee share plans, the AGM, corporate reporting (financial, sustainability, remuneration and corporate governance), insurance coverage and more. This role would suit a lawyer who brings: A proven ability to manage complex transactions and competing priorities while maintaining a strategic, solutions-focused approach, driving work to completion. Sound commercial and financial acumen and curiosity in commercial drivers and issues for transactions. Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, practical advice for senior stakeholders. A team-oriented outlook, a “can do” attitude, integrity and sound judgment. 6 years relevant post admission experience in a top-tier Australian or international firm, with strong M&A experience (prior in-house experience is advantageous but not required).
