IF CARING FOR THE LAND & SEA IS WHAT YOU ENJOY, PLEASE JOIN OUR TEAM! TSRA Environmental Management Program are currently seeking dedicated Senior Ranger to join our team. TSRA Rangers play a vital role in the environmental and cultural stewardship across the Torres Strait. Rangers combine traditional knowledge and western science to care of land, sea and culture in line with community and traditional owners. Position is based on Masig (Yorke Island) The key duties of the position include APS3 Ranger will work under the direction of Senior Natural Resource Management Officer (SNRMO) Ranger Supervisor, Central Cluster and the Natural Resource Management Officer (NRMO) Ranger Supervisor. For land and sea project work you will work in collaboration with the Land and Sea Teams Project Managers. For IPA and TEK project work you will work in collaboration with the People and Culture team Project Manager. Land based activities will include: • Assisting with weed eradication activities • Participating in beach clean ups • Assisting with the maintenance of cultural sites. • Required to undertake plant surveys. Sea based activities will include: • Sea grass monitoring surveys • Coral reef surveys • Turtle monitoring • Recording information on the marine ecosystems. • Working closely with community members to record cultural knowledge that contributes to TEK projects. This work will be done using traditional language and English. You will represent the TSRA and maintain a good reputation by treating all members of the community with respect. • Assisting the SNRMO Ranger Supervisor and NRMO Ranger Supervisor with organising meetings with Prescribed Body Corporates (PBC's) and community, regularly to updating them on Ranger works and seeking their feedback. As part of the Ranger team, you will be responsible for your own and others' sea safety by coordinating voyage plans, ensuring vessels are seaworthy and have all required safety equipment. As a Ranger you will be required to follow Work, Health and Safety policies and procedures to ensure the safety of yourself, colleagues, and communities. In the Ranger Program, we have resources and assets that require ongoing maintenance and repairs, as a Ranger you will also: • Assist with maintaining these assets as per TSRA policies and procedures. • Assist in guiding, supporting and managing lower-level rangers within your team. • Responsible for planning and coordinating land, sea and cultural heritage management activities as set out in the Masig Roadmap. • Updating and reporting in the Work Planner, ensuring that all activities and progress align with the Masig Roadmap. This includes documenting and completing tasks, tracking milestones and timelines, reporting outcomes and challenges and ensuring alignment with community goals and priorities.
